OCEANUS, under a tight hold for six furlongs, began working way up on the outside and, responding to stout pressure, wore down ABBOTS MAID nearing the sixteenth pole, then drew out at the end. PHARFOX, going easily and saving ground early, came between horses in the drive and finished with good courage. ABBOTS MAID remained close to the leaders under light restraint for a mile, was rushed to the front when urged, maintained a long lead to the middle of the stretch, then weakened. SNAZY, forwardly placed from the beginning, failed to rally when called on in the final furlong. STORMY BILL was in a contending position, but failed to respond to pressure. SHOOT FIRST had no mishap. NEOTRIST quit after forcing the early pace. SIGANAR quit badly. ROMAN GOVERNOR showed a dull effort. LITTLE HOOPS, forwardly placed while saving ground in the first quarter, slipped through on the inside to assume command and drew out to win with speed in reserve. FAST TEMPO was sent into the lead in the first quarter, maintained a short advantage until challenged by the winner, then held on gamely when displaced. TAKING WAYS, outrun to the head of the stretch, responded to pressure and was running fastest at the end. EASY QUERO faltered after forcing the early pace. DUCHESS MYRNA rallied mildly in the final furlong. CHARTER MEMBER loomed a threat entering the stretch, then weakened. GENERAL JACK had brief early speed. WISE SUE had no mishap. SAVING, in hand the first half mile while trailing the field, saved ground when making her move, slipped through on the inside nearing the furlong pole and assumed a short lead, then continued gamely under vigorous handling. SPLINTER, going easily and well in hand to the stretch turn, rallied when roused and fought it out gamely. LUCKY IRISH, in closest attendance of the early pace, failed to respond when put to a drive. KATES SILVER moved up on the extreme outside after six furlongs, then failed to improve while losing ground. CALLMENOW was unable to keep up. PLANE SPOTTER sulked under pressure. JANANN W. assumed command soon after the beginning, turned back the challenge of CAMBRIDGE FAIR, then was roused to hold GROUSER safe at the end. The latter closed fast through the middle of the track from a sluggish beginning. CAMBRIDGE FAIR showed good speed while savins ground, moved up on the turn to make a determined bid, then weakened slightly in the drive. MATADOR JOHN, prominently placed on the outside entering the stretch, was sent to the inside for the drive, but failed to respond to urging. ETERNAL GOLD was under steady urging from the beginning. AIR PATROL was sent up fast from the beginning to remain close to WINDMILL while the latter set the early pace, responded to pressure in the drive and drew out at the end. WINDMILL broke alertly, was steadied along while maintaining a slight-advantage and held on gamely to the sixteenth pole, then faltered. OGHAM was prominently placed on the outsid and failed to threaten when put to a drive. HYHUSTLE weaved way between horses in the final furlong under steady urging. SOLLURE slipped through on the inside entering the stretch and loomed as a threat, then hung. EASY CHANCE was shuffled back on the final turn, then came again under stout handling. TOOLMAKER was . under light restraint to the stretch, then closed with a rush, working out a mile in 1:401/s. DOG DAY retired steadily. The latter sprinted into command rounding the first turn, was steadied along while enjoying a clear lead, then was shaken up when challenged and held on gamely. MARKOBOB was well placed and had no mishap. SUNSPARK saved ground on the turn, rallied mildly entering the stretch, but was unable to threaten. BARNACLE was unable to keep up. CAMERA MAN moved up fast on the far turn, then flattened out. WHITE HOPE was never a serious factor. BOBTOWN retired steadily. Overweight— Bobtown, 4 pounds. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. ANZAC, closer to the pace than usual, was hard held in the first half, moved on the outside rounding the final turn, assumed command and drew out to win as rider pleased. TRACELETTE saved ground while moving into contention early, disposed of WAPAN after a half, then held on tenaciously when displaced by the winner. LASSAGRIA, outrun to the final quarter, closed fast on the outside under stout pressure. WAPAN was sent to the front at once, opened a clear lead under light restraint, then weakened when challenged. JOSIES PAL made up ground in the late stages. JELWELL was unable to keep up. BUSY NINE showed nothing. DARBY DUNCAN retired steadily after being unable to reach the early leaders. SKIPPER Z. was bothered in the late stages when his run down bandage came loose and was eased up through stretch. Scratched— 992623 Roman Abbot, 115; 99044 Sweepnack, 111.
