Crump; bred by Marshall Field. WENT TO P0ST-4:36. OFF AT 4:37 CENTRAL STANDARD TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. BLUE GRASS, well ridden and improving her position steadily to the stretch, assumed a clear lead when settled for the drive and, responding to strong handling, lasted to withstand COSMIC MISSILE. The latter, forced to take up sharply when crowded after the start, was in close quarters until reaching the last three-eighths, came willingly when clear and was getting to the winner at the finish. MOTHER, slow to begin and outrun early, made a good bid approaching the stretch, but could not overtake the leaders- in the drive. HAPPINESS, far back to the last quarter, came to the inside for the stretch run and closed determinedly under punishment. SPRINGTIDE came over sharply at the start, interfered with MEL VAN ORMAN, COSMIC MISSILE and HIPPARETE, was taken in hand until reaching the stretch, but could not better her position when roused in the drive. MEL VAN ORMAN moved up boldly near the stretch, then weakened. CHECK PLEASE made the pace to the stretch, then gave way. SISTAYR was done early. HIPPARETE had brief speed. THE MINTER went to the front at once, made the pace to the stretch under steady rating and, responding to punishment during the drive, retained his advantage to the finish. EIK HILLS, saved to the final quarter, came gamely when set down in the drive, but could not overtake the winner. SOLID MEAT, sent to the outside for the stretch drive, swerved under punishment and could not improve his position. FRANCIE, a sharp factor from the outset, lacked room entering the stretch and was unable to menace when clear. KERRYGATOR disliked the muddy going and dropped back after showing early speed. DAVITT dwelt at the start. Overweight— Francie, 3 pounds. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. Lady Madcap, May 24, 1922-1:44—4—113. Purse ,380. 4-year-olds *** A C and upward. THUNDER HOOF, forwardly placed and saving ground from the start, came gamely when hard ridden through the stretch and disposed of RED MARS in the last stride. The latter went to the front early, made the pace under good rating and finished determinedly, but could not withstand the winner, just missing. KANTAR RUN, in hand to the stretch, closed fast under punishment. ADENOS raced evenly to the stretch, then finished strongly. LITTLE MONARCH tired. DAUBERUP never was dangerous.
