PHARNED into defeat, then continued resolutely to withstand K. COOKIE. The latter, away slowly, improved her position steadily thereafter, but could not reach the winner when set down for the drive. MR. PHARNED went to the front at the start, made the pace to the stretch, then faltered. HEPCAT was outrun. SMOKEY broke alertly, but failed to stay. CHANCE BEA went to the front at once, shook off HOT AND HIGH entering the stretch and drew clear without need of urging. HOT AND HIGH, away sluggishly, was hustled early to reach serious contention, came gamely during the drive, but was not good enough for the winner, although easily best of the others. SPRING FIESTA, on the outside throughout, could not threaten the leaders when hard ridden through the stretch. WATCH SONNY was outrun. MISS NEAL had early speed. ST0CKETT TRACE tired badly. DIAVOLOMAN, in hand and saving ground to the stretch, responded to strong handling during the drive and was up to dispose of DARBY DIMOUT in the last strides. The latter raced nearest VIENNA WALTZ to the final quarter, took command entering the stretch and was unable to withstand the winner. SWEEP SWINGER, away sluggishly, finished fast. WIRE QUEST raced evenly to the stretch, then faltered. VIENNA WALTZ made the pace for three-quarters, then tired. TELLMEHOW was done after three-quarters. CASTEL BEAU was outrun. The latter moved up boldly after three-eighths, bore out when set down for the drive and could not overtake the winner. FLEETRIDGE failed to rally when roused for the stretch run SONG SPARROW raced wide and was never dangerous. JACOPADES forced the pace for three-quarters, then gave way. SHADOW SHOT was done early. UNCLE OTHO engaged BENGAL BOY to the stretch, shook off the latter, but was unable to hold the winner BUZZAROUND began fast, could not keep up immediately after the start, then drifted out in the stretch and tired. BENGAL BOY made the pace to the final quarter under pressure from UNCLE OTHO, then weakened. HARVARD SQUARE was outrun. BIG HEAD never was prominent. BARBASTEL had brief speed. JET PILOT, alertly handled, assumed command at once, made the pace to the stretch under good rating and, responding readily when hard ridden in the drive, lasted to withstand PHALANX. The latter, away very sluggishly and outrun during the first half mile, worked his way forward steadily thereafter and, taken out for the stretch run, finished fast and was getting to the winner at the end. FAULTLESS, never far back and steadied along to the stretch, responded readily when set down in the drive, then closed strongly in a sharp effort. ON TRUST, forwardly placed from the beginning and in a good effort, failed to rally when roused for the drive and faltered near the finish. COSMIC BOMB, a sharp factor early, engaged JET PILOT for five furlongs, then weakened. STAR REWARD made a good bid approaching the stretch, then gave way. BULLET PROOF went evenly and had no mishap. W L SICKLE was never prominent. STEPFATHER, away slowly, was never a serious factor. LIBERTY ROAD was far back the entire trip. RlSKOLATER was off sluggishly and was never a serious factor. DOUBLE JAY had brief speed and pulled up sore. JETT-JETT unseated his rider at the post, ran off a quarter and showed nothing in the running. Scratched— 22173 Balheim, 126.
