Lucky Draw Reported To Have Broken Down Mishap at Belmont Park, Where Widener Star Was in Training JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y., May 3.— The first casualty of the season among major handicap horses is George D. Widener s Lucky Draw, it was learned here today. The six-year-old bay gelding by Jack High — Tatanne has broken down and probably will not be seen under colors this year. The mishap occurred at Belmont Park. Lucky Draw began serious training there on April 2, and he worked at regular intervals until April 23, his last reported trial having been one mile in 1:45, handily, on the main track. Lucky Draw promised to be a formidable factor in handicap racing this season, following a successful, if not sensational, campaign last year. To date Lucky Draws record shows 15 victories in 30 starts, with five seconds and two thirds and total earnings of 78,590. His last start was in the Westchester Handicap at Jamaica November 9 last, when he finished second to Assault, "Triple Crown" winner and "Horse of the Year" in 1946.
