Horses Starting to Arrive For River Downs Meeting * CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 9.— While River Downs is being given a thorough grooming — fresh paint and all — In preparation for the 43-day meeting under new management, opening on May 27, thoroughbreds are beginning to reach here from all sections of the country and, according to racing secretary Gene Bury, every available stall will be filled before the opening bugle blows. At a press and radio luncheon Monday, officials of the River Downs organization expressed the belief that the forthcoming meeting at the Queen City track will be one of the best offered here in many years. A check of the applications reveal that a better grade of racing material than seen in previous meetings will be campaigned over the local strip, while some of the best riders in this section will don silks during the session. Seventeen handicaps will be offered and the schedule with a purse value of ,000. The Cincinnati Special, at a mile and 70 yards; the Marathon, at two miles, and the River Downs Championship, run over a mile and a sixteenth.
