Burwell Stakes to Lone Eagle NEW MARKET, England, May 9 Reuters. — William Woodwards four-year-old, Lone Eagle,, today beat his only opponent. Royal Empire, by four lengths to win the ,800 added Burwell Stakes here today. Carrying 132 pounds, Lone Eagle started at 2 to 11 and jockey Harry Carr brought him home an easy winner. The race was watched in silence, broken only when a bookmaker offered to lay "One hundred pounds to a carrot against Royal Empire," as the pair went into the dip and again when the same bookmaker offered even money as the horses passed the post, that Woodwards Prince Simon would not finish among the first three in the Derby. Woodward won the Burwell Stakes last year with Black Tarquin.
