Garden State Handle Up Over 1949 GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 12.— An encouraging note was sounded here with the announcement that this meeting is showing a substantial gain in the mutuel handle over the coinciding 11-day period last spring. Surprisingly, the betting is in contrast to the attendance figures, which show a slight decline. Despite the rather unpleasant weather which has accompanied the early days of this meeting, the attendance presently stands at 155,419, against 160,359 which was registered last season. A total of 2,122,931 has been passed through the mutuels, breaking down:to»a daily average of ,102,085. Last spring, the figures were 1,937,923, for an average of ,085,265.
