Hanson, Last American Hope, Defeated in British Amateur BROADSTONE, England, June 6 UP. — The last American hope went a-glim-mering in the British Womens Amateur Golf Championship today when Beverly Hanson of Indio, Calif., was eliminated in the quarter-finals as Francis Stephens of England and Mrs. Kitty MacCann of Ireland reached tomorrows final. Miss Hanson, the red-haired U. S. amateur queen, was beaten 2 and 1 by Jeanne Bisgood of England in the morning quarter-finals on the 6,040-yard Dorset County course. Miss Stephens, 26-year-old daughter of a golf professional, and Mrs. MacCann, a 29-year-old internationalist from Tullamore, each advanced with two victories and will meet in a 36-hoIe final tomorrow for the title. Miss Stephens won the crown in 1949.
