QUIRINUS, closest to the pace tnroguhout, took command inside the furlong post and held MONTE CASSINO clear under pressure. The latter broke slowest, was forced to race wide improving position and finished resolutely. TEMM closed stoutly after a slow start. BARWAR gained a clear lead along the backstretch, held on willingly until the stretch and Sfcn»nILJB0N eased back between horses nearing the turn, came again when clear, then faltered. LUNNlc RAB dropped back after breaking fastest, saved ground when making a mild bid on the turn and gave way. PORT JACKSON was much used early and quit. LADY -ROUNDERS quit. RELOUP, in a contending position from the start, wore down PORTO BELLO for the place. The latter faltered in the drive. BALSAM had no excuse. TEA-MAKER was crowded a trifle a quarter mile after the start, forced his way between horses, obtained command briefly between calls in the final furlong and just failed. NAVY CHIEF raced SINGING STEP into defeat, held on gamely until inside the furlong post and faltered slightly. HYPHASIS . went up to be a sharp factor in the stretch and weakened nearing the end.
