challenge to Hasty Road in the Derby trial had this same rival to catch today and vanquished him de ¬ cisively as a crowd of 100000 screamed the place down rolling to the finish winner by a length and a half Two and a half lengths off Hasty Road the Walmac Farms surprising Hasseyampa was third and it was a like distance back to Goyamo w o was fourth in a field of 17 starters startersThe The Wood winner Correlation a slight favorite over Determine finished in sixth position lugging in badly but still running strongly Regrettably this Derby was not without some untoward incidents At the break their tracks tracksUp Up the backstretch Hasty Road was two lengths clear of Timely Tip and Admiral Porter with York sitting perfectly still back of them On the turn Timely Tip amazed most of the audience making a bold run at the pacemaker but a few strides later he collapsed and Admiral Porter was by now laboring to maintain a position While these colts were proving outclassed Correlation and Goyamo were beginning to advance together Arcaro and Shoemaker apparently thinking each had the other to beat They were charging on the outside from the middle of the turn But they were too far out of it and York called on Determine swinging into the stretch The gallant son of an unraced sire ind dam went to Hasty Road with a ven jeance straightened for the run home The Sasty House colt again tried post time Skies were partly clouded the humidity high Fleet after fleet of cabs plied Third Avenue from midtown Louisville to the course beginning at an early hour and in the immediate vicinity of the park the sidewalks were crowded by midmorning with those strolling to the entrances An ordinary racing days gathering was at the gates when they opened at 8 a m dashing for vantage points along the
