Reports by Foreign Correspondents England Chamier Aureole Await Festival7 By CLIVE GRAHAM London Correspondent Daily Racing Form LONDON England An unusually high proportion of the leading threeyearold colts of 1953 have been retained in train ¬ ing this year The only notable exception is Pinza who had to be retired owing to a leg injury injuryThe The first important clash took place in the Coronation Stakes at Sandown This one mile and a quarter event was run at scale and brought out Queen Elizabeths Aureole second in last years Derby and third m the St Leger Chamier winner of the Irish Derby King of the Tudors whose 1953 victories included the Royal Stakes at Ascot and the Cup winner Souepi now six years old oldAs As expected the distance was too short lor Souepi and the betting was confined to Aureole King of the Tudors and Cha ¬ mier mierIn In a slowrun race Chamier got first run on Aureole to win handily by a length King of the Tudors ran into a pocket and struck into the heels of the horse in front of him which nearly caused him to fall Gethin snatched him up and he finished fourth fourthEph Eph Smith rode Aureole in place of the colts 1953 jockey Harry Carr Rea ¬ son for the change was that Aureole has proved himself a difficult horse to han ¬ dle and Capt Charles Moore the Queens racing manager thought Smith would suit him better betterOnce Once again though Aureole refused to settle down got his head up and fought hard against restraint Breasley on Cham ¬ ier was able to profit by this lack of har ¬ mony Although Aureole was closing fast at the finish the Irishbred son of Chamos ¬ saire did not have to be pushed right out outIt It will be recalled that Mrs Vickermans colt was a candidate for last seasons In ¬ ternational at Laurel Park He was then trained by Vincent OBrien but has now been transferred to the care of Noel Can ¬ non of Druids Lodge in Wiltshire WiltshireChamier Chamier and Aureole will meet again later in the season probably in the Fes ¬ tival 75000 event at Ascot The Queens horse may well have his revenge there Although Chamier won last years Irish Derby on the disqualification of Pre ¬ monition one and onehalf miles in a fast run race that represents the abso ¬ lute limit of his staying capacity capacityAureole Aureole started at odds of 4 to 5 and there seem to have been an abnormal number of shortpriced horses beaten during the early weeks of this season The bookmakers though as usual have found something to groan about This time their complaint is that the horse players are not betting enough money moneyA A long shot came up in the City and Su ¬ burban Handicap at Epsom when sixyear old Sunny Brae 111 with the books and 251 in at the mutuels beat the favorite Sailing Light in a photo finish Gordon Richards rode the second horse who might have won if he had not attempted to grab a slice out of Sunny Braes neck a few yards short of the winning post This ma ¬ neuver unbalanced Sailing Light and frightened Sunny Brae into running faster fasterThe The Epsom meeting was marked by the victory of Ambler n in the blue riband Trial Stakes The opposition was probably not of great account but the son of Am biorix gave weight away all round and won in delightfully smooth fashion Harry Carr said afterward that the horse has not yet been seriously trained and will improve tremendously during the next six weeks weeksThe The Americanbred colt was admired greatly by critics both before and after the race Being from a Menow mare it is perhaps not surprising that he should bear a marked resemblance to Tom Fool He has the same glorious dark bay color the same stamp of head and that excep ¬ tional development of muscular power behind the saddle The purist would ault his hocks a relic of his Tourbillon an ¬ cestry cestryNo No exception could be taken to the way he acted round this last mile and a six ¬ teenth of the one and onehalf miles Ep ¬ som Derby course Despite jumping th tan covered Roman pathway which cuts across the course near the last furlong jole Ambler II never became unbal unbalContinued Continued on Page ForfySevei Report From England EnglandBy By CLIVE GRAHAM Continued from Page Six Sixanced anced He won as if there should be no doubts of any stamina weakness weaknessHis His next race will be over the Derby distance at Lingfield where he is due to meet the winter favorite Rowston Manor Ambler TJ is now a firm first choice in William Hills longodds book 71 If he wins at Lingfield this price will probably be quartered quarteredThe The suspension of jockeys is a compara ¬ tively rare occurrence in England Lester Piggott made frontpage news when he was set down by the stewards for reckless riding on the first day of the Epsom meeting This was the third time in the last four years that the boy jockey incurred the dis ¬ pleasure of the authorities authoritiesPiggott Piggott now a tall slim youth of 18 going to scale at 114 pounds came back at Sandown and won the feature race there on Longstone
