Federico Tesio Italys Top OwnerBreeder Dies at 85 Special to Daily Racing Form MILAN Italy May 1 Reuters Signer Federico Tesio Italys leading owner and trainer died suddenly here today at the age of 85 Tesio known as the king of the Italian turf watched his horses at train ¬ ing only yesterday He was generally recog ¬ nized as one of the worlds leading author ¬ ities on breeding and for 50 years his best horses were sought virtually all over the world worldA A man of simple tastes he devoted his life to improving the strain of Italian horses His greatest horse was Nearco who whowas was unbeaten in 14 races including the Grand Prix at Longchamp Nearco was bought from him for 168000 by Martin Benson noted British breeder and the horse played a large part in Britains post ¬ war recovery on turf turfNearco Nearco was by Lord Derbys Pharos out of the Italian mare Nogara Among the good horses he sired were Dante winner of the 1945 Epsom Derby Nimbus who took the Two Thousand Guineas and Derby in 1949 Masaka Oaks winner of 1948 and Sayajirao victor in the 1947 St Leger
