Ryder Gup Team Selection To Be Made in September The 1955 American Ryder Cup team will be picked by the Professional Golfers Association executive committee at the conclusion of the Hartford, Conn., Open Tournament Sept. 5. Two players, Chick Harbert, 1954 PGA champion, and the 1955 PGA winner, to be decided at the tournament at Northville, Mich., July 20-26, automatically qualify for the team. Others are selected on the basis of points scored in PGA-sponsored or co-sponsored tournaments since the last Ryder Cup matches. The matches are played every two years with the last held at Wentworth, England in 1953. The United States won, GVz to 5V2. The next match will be played at Thunderbird Country Club, Palm Springs, Calif., Nov. 5-6.
