5,000 Laurel Handicap Scheduled for Week End LAUREL, Md., April 30.— The Maryland State Fair, Inc., enters the third and final week of its 18-day meeting on Monday, a week which will be climaxed by the Saturday running of the 5,000 added Laurel Handicap. Among the leading prospects for this mile and a sixteenth event is Mrs Walter M. Jeffords Subahdar, winner of his lone outing this year while touring the stakes distance in 1:44 for the best time of-the meeting. Just this morning the son of Alsab breezed a mile in 1:43%, which would indicate that trainer Oscar White anticipates starting him in the Laurel. , Other leading prospects include Cornelius V. Whitneys Ply Wheel and Cold Command, either of whom would prove formidable should Syl Veitch elect to start them. Other likely participants are Brook-field Farms I Geegee, Ella K. Brysons Abbezac, Brookmeade Stables Country Club, Eugene Constantin, Jr.s, Royal Bay .Gem, George W. Offutts Magic Lamp, and Willowbrook Stables Bad Conduct. Following next Saturdays program, there will be a "dark" day on Monday, with racking scheduled to resume on Tuesday afternoon at the Maryland Jockey Clubs Pimlico course.
