The Warrior Heads Corinto Quintet Totes 122 Pounds j In Balmoral Sprint Walmac Homebred Clashes With Tommys Jet, Shy Peg, Vici Admiral, Deep Breath By Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., May 16. — Walmac Farms The Warrior, one of the Midwests ranking three-year-olds last year and a strong second to Swoons Son in the 1956 American Derby, heads a field of five entered in the ,000 Corinto Purse. Fridays headliner at Washington Park. Going against the R. W. Mc-Ilvain colorbearer in the six-furlong race are Valley View Farms Vici Admiral. Roger Wilson and Mrs. T. P. Hull Jr.s Tommys Jet, Maxwells King Stables Deep Breath, and Broadmoor Farms Shy Peg. The Corinto will be run as the fifth race. The Warrior will pack top weight of 122 pounds Friday, three more than Tommys Jet. Deep Breath carries 113 while Shy Peg and Vici Admiral tote 108 each. Passing Up La Salle The Warrior has passed up Saturdays La Salle Handicap sprint for a shot at lesser competition. The well-regarded colt has started only" once this season, finishing eighth in the Churchill Downs Handicap, won by Swoons Son two weeks ago. Last year The Warrior, racing with a good measure of success against the very best three t -year-olds in training here, won six of C 15 starts, was second in the American Derby, Warren Wright Memorial, and i Domino Stakes, and earned 9,050. His i regular rider, John Heckmann, will be aboard. I Tommys Jet also comes off a rather disappointing race behind Swoons Son in the ■ recent Churchill Downs Handicap. The Jet Pilot i colt ran eleventh in that one, his ] first outing this season. Last year Tommys Jet was victorious in four times. Vici Admiral has had a busy campaign , thus far and has a pair of wins in 10 starts, both recorded in high-class claim- i ing events in Florida this spring. The Ace j Admiral mare was third behind Hangover * and Mambo Da/icer last month in a Gulf-stream Park sprint, her third straight . third-place finish. Shy Peg, shelved by an injury last year, j is winless in five starts this year while i racing in top allowance company at Gulf-stream ! Park. The Faultless five-year-old mare finished sixth in her latest Florida I sprint attempt and has not won since J early 1955. Charles Burr has the riding j assignment. Deep Breath makes his Balmoral bow ■ Friday, the Devil Diver four-year-old gelding coming off an eight-race Florida campaign which netted one win and a third.
