Alie Grissoms Thievery and By Far, head a field of 10 speedy racers slated to clash here Friday afternoon in the Star Shoot Purse. Thievery will shoulder 124 pounds under the Star Shoot conditions while his stablemate, By Far, gets in the seven-furlong headliner with 117 pounds. Vester R. Wright, leading trainer at the current Downs meeting, announced this morning that jockey Johnny Ralph Adams, top reinsman, will handle one of the Grissom starters in the Star Shoot. Thievery, a four-year-old High Bandit-sired colt, posted a "four-four-four" mark during his three-year-old season and thus far this year he has visited the winners ring on four occasions. He raced impressively during his New Orleans winter campaign and he won at Keeneland before moving to the Downs for a well-deserved victory in a six-furlong overnight event last Saturday. By Far Training Satisfactorily By Far, a six-year-old son of Bold Gallant and Escutcheon, met good company while winning three engagements last year, but he was beaten off in his initial 1957 start. Trainer Wright stated that By Far is training satisfactorily and that he may have needed his race here inaugural day. In the band named to oppose the Detroit-owned Grissom pair are M. J. Rosenthals Dru Away, 120; J. P. Keezeks Irish Brush, 117; Mrs. Daisy Sukundos World Series, 117, and H. F. Krimendahls Yield, 124 pounds. Also D. J. Thompsons Veneration, 112; J. W. Mcllvains My Dust, 117; Mrs. Norman J. Hernandez Baby Brier, 117, and Buddah Stables Goldnose, 117 pounds. Goldnose and Yield are exceptionally well placed in the Star Shoot and each is a capable performer at the weights. Yields best effort this spring was a record-shattering performance in a Beard Course event at Keeneland, while Goldnose was beaten but a half length by Vagabond King in the Twin Spires Purse here Derby Day. Jockey Sherman Armstrong, successful here Wednesday afternoon with four mounts, is engaged for Yield, and Johnny Delahoussaye, the long-geared Louisianian, probably will guide Goldnose. Johnny Rotz is to ride Dry Away, Johnny Sellers will be astride Irish Brush and Al Popara is named on World Series, whose recent morning i trials have been on the quick side. Delahoussaye has a second call for his saddle services on My Dust and Frank Vincent undoubtedly will be at •the reins on the New Orleans -owned Baby Brier. Wright and Adams will team up again in the mile and one-sixteenth Guest of Honor. Wright is sending James L. Paddocks Leon and Roysie R. postward in the . middle-distance test and young Adams is to 1 handle one of the Paddock hopefuls. Eight horses are named for the Guest of ; Honor, with Mighty Warrior and Howard County expected to give the Paddock en-! try the sternest oppositipn.
