Rockinghams Summer Meeting Is Called Off Paves Way for Three Additional Weeks of Racing at Suffolk BOSTON, Mass., June 28.— Lou Smith, vice-president and executive manager of the New Hampshire Jockey Club, has announced that his association will be unable to conduct its summer meeting at Rockingham Park. The letter containing Smiths announcement is as follows: "The New Hampshire Racing Commission, •Concord, New Hampshire. "Gentlemen: "This is to notify you that the New Hampshire Jockey Club, Inc., will be unable to conduct its summer meeting at Rockingham Park due to the transportation and travel situation. "With the ban on pleasure driving, our reliance was upon buses but this service has been curtailed to such an extent that it does not provide sufficient transportation facilities to the track. "We investigated several other means of transportation, which would not violate government rulings, but we found that these would not be practicable. We, therefore, have made the decision to cancel the summer meeting. "We hope that the situation will be relieved by the fall and that we will be able to open on September 27. "Respectfully yours, "The New Hampshire Jockey Club, Inc., "Louis Smith, vice-president and executive manager." The decision by Lou Smith means that the sport will continue at Suffolk Downs until August 7, since it is certain that the state racing commission will grant Suffolk Downs its request for three extra weeks of racing. Such an application is already in the hands of the commission. Charles F. Adams, president of Suffolk Downs has already stated that all net profits from the additional three weeks j would be divided equally between the Metro- | politan chapter of the American Red Cross and the Greater Boston War Fund.
