The latter assumed command at once, established the pace most of tht trip and just missed. EIGHT BELLS came up between horses in the stretch and closed with good energy. IM FRED rallied mildly in the closing stages. SILLY MINNIE lacked early speed. FIREY RED flattened out when put to pressure. FORT MONMOUTH went along close to the pace for a mile and weakened.
