Horses Go to Tote Wickets, But Not to Bet on People Horses finally got into the betting ring last summer — but they werent there to" wager on the people. It happened at Lincoln Downs in Rhode Island. There was a violent hurricane howling through the plant, and it began to look as if the roofs would start flying off the barns. As a precautionary measurer several of the trainers took their horses into the grandstand — and they were parked by their grooms right next to the mutuel wickets. v
