OAKLAND PATRONS HISS THE OFFICIALS. Chantilly, Heavily Backed, is all But Left at Post and Falls at Finish. San Francisco, Cal., March 24. Au unusual scene, even for a race track, was enacted at the start, during the running and at the finish of the last race at Oakland this afternoon. The trouble commenced when the heavily backed second choice, Chantilly, was all but left at the post. The crowd hissed starter Holtman. Then as the race progressed tremendous cheering greeted the Clark colts game, but unavailing effort and finally, when within a few yards of the finish he met the climax of his misfortune and fell, the spectators again foolishly gave vent of its displeasure. The Bell stakes for two-year-olds, with the great Horace E. out of the way, proved an easy thing for Harry Stovers Glenheim colt, Native Son. Notwithstanding the bad condition of the track a big field of starters went to the post. Tills was the most popular victory of the day and the only successful favorite.
