THE MONTGOMERY HANDICAP CANDIDATES. Secretary Macfarlan Announces the Entries to Stakes for Memphis Spring Meeting. Memphis, Tenn., March 24. Entries to seven stakes to be decided at the Montgomery Park meeting, commencing April 10 and ending May 9, are announced by Secretary Macfarlan, of the New Memphis Jockey Club. The events, on account of late closing, enabling owners to nominate only their choice representatives, show a decrease over former years, but the officials express themselves as satisfied with the outlook and state that the list taken in its entirety is a complimentary one In view of the fact that the entries closed more than a month after the usual time. The Tennessee Brewing Selling stake again proved the most popular with owners. It closed with 103 entries. The Gaston Hotel Stakes, for two-year-old colts and geldings, attracted 50 entries; the Ardellc Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, 47; the Memphis Stakes, for two-year-olds, -74; the Hotel Gayoso Stakes, for three-year-olds, 30; the Peabody Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, 52, and the Montgomery Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, 06. The complete list of horses entered for the Montgomery Handicap, which is to be the feature of the opening day is as follows: Bannock Belle. James Reddick. Barbaros. Kings Gem. Bitter Brown. Entries were accepeted by the local association from the American Turf Association followers, although it is announced that Western Jockey Club rules will govern here. Tichenor and Co., J. 0. Kcene, Jas. Arthur and others who campaigned at Latonia last fall are liberally represented in the local list of entries and will be unconditionally reinstated for all rights at Montgomery Park .
