KEEN FINISH AT CRESCENT. RAPID WATER DEFEATS LITTLE SCOUT AND MACY JK. IN HANDICAP. Goldblatt Evens Up a Grudge Poor Day For Favorites at City Park Jockey Tost Has His Collarbone Broken. i New Orleans, La., March 24. The feature race at the old track today resulted In a mighty keen content between Rapid Water, Little Scout and Macy Jr., Rapid Water winning in a hard drive by a half length from Little Scout, a nose better than Macy Jr. Rapid Water led all the way, but had to do his best to stall ofT the terrific rush of Little Scout. Incidentally the race threw a strong side light on the recent defeat of Little Scout by St. Valentine and Hallowmas, when jockeys Obert and Uobblus went out of their way to foul the Bennett horse, and also on Macy Jr.s last race when he was handily beaten by Little Scout. Macy Jr. showed far more speed today, was always close up and finished fast. Mose Goldblatt evened up a grudge of three years standing against Willie Harris when Invincible won the mile race, last on the card. Three years ago Harris bid up and took Worthlngton from Goldblatt at St. Louis and Goldblatt has been waiting ever since to get even. He bid up Invincible 00 over his entered price. Harris protected the horse. Van Ness won his twelfth and probably last race at the meeting. He just did outlast Elastic in the opening race and beat him a bead. Hildrcth will now give the old campaigner a rest. Favorites share of the purses at City Park this afternoon came with the ruuniug of the first two races. Some of the other winners were well backed, bgt .their support. ame jhaluly, .from their stable connections! In the feature race, the mile and a sixteenth handicap. Alma Dufour, the heavily backed favorite, was easily beaten by Debar and Devout. Debar ran a smart race, winning in easy fashion after rating along in second place until rounding the turn into the homestretch. Gardner and McCoulskey disposed of Liddon at private sale this morning to T. J. Nleol. The price paid was announced as ,200. The horse ran in Garduers colors, but in the interest -of this new owner In the race which he won this afternoon. J allies Baker .purchased of A. M. Waddcll .and Co. the three-year-old Steve Lane.
