Montgomery, from a. good inside forward; position, failed repeatedly In attempts to come through next to the rail in the stretch, but finally secured a late opening and drew up like a flash to win drawing clear. Main Chance b;gan slowly, but closed un rapidly on the outside, joined the leaders in the stretch and gamely earned second place in a tierce closing drive. Fish Hawk set the pace until in the last couple of strides, where lie was headed, but ran a .superior class race. Linnepee was well up from the start and : goiug fast at the end. Conjecture helped to force the pace and tired in the final sixteenth. Yorkist, away poorly, trailed for five furlongs and then closed up with unexpected speed. Martin Doyle, after being shut- off repeatedly in the early running, came along on the qutsido in the stretch and made good with a great rush. Lord of the Vale, fresh and good, forged into the lead early and: in a do the running to midway of the stretch before he succumbed, dropped back suddenly and then came again. Sailor Boy rail forwardly for seven furlongs and seemed sure of second place when beginning the Inst sixteenth, when he suddenly quit. Single Shot was badly outpaced for the first half, but finished gaining. Workman was a close up fifth, showing big improvement. Neoskaleeta, away poorly, came fast from the rear and is worth watching. Irvine showed early speed, but was not good enough here. Grace George finished well. Water-speed Is improving and finished well up and going fast. Dollle Dollars was nearly lert.
