CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE MATRON STAKES. In its first six years the Matron was run as a race for two-year-olds without distinction as to sex, but since 1902 It has been run in two divisions, one for colts and geldings and the other for fillies. Its greatest value was when Sir Francis won it in 1S92, but it still ranks high among the two-year-old events of each year and is the most valuable race for horses of that age run at the Itelmont Park fall meeting. Tlie record of tlie race is as follows: Year. First. Jockeys. Wt. Second. Wt. Third. Wt. Val.
