TWO LATONIA CHOICES WIN. TOBOGGAN, MEDIUM OF A PLUNGE, FAILS TO LAND. Fast Track and Fine Weather Draw a Large Attendance Big Fields in Evidence Shilling Rides Three Winners. Todays big attendance exceeded expectations, as. the card was only an ordinary one, and the fieldsfn each race almost of limit proportion. .Mark Time and Colonel Bob, both lukewarm favorites, were theV only winning choices. Toboggans defeat in the fourth race was costly to form followers. With McChord out of die race, it looked promising for the rejuvenated Strcctt cripple, but after leading his field at a fast clip for a half, he weakened badly, enabling Heine and Stoner Hill to beat him to the wire. For the first time this season starter Holtman drew the spectators ire by dispatching the second race, at. one mile, witli half of the starters in a tangled condition and practically left. Sister Polly and Rio Grande, which were among the favored ones at the start, fought it out hard all the way and came to the finish noses apart. Belle Scott challenged gamely in the last sixteenth and would have won in a few more strides. Woolstone, the favorite, after looming up dangerously on the stretch turn, tired in the final drive. T. P. Hayes evidently is going to try and make good his boast of sending Colonel Bob into winter quarters with a record number of victories for a youngster this year. He won the -fifth race in a canter. It was his eleventh successful effort. Lady Martha was much the best in the opener, but crowding at the start almost caused her to fall. She came with a rush through the stretch and took third place. D. Roland, on Macias, was suspended for three days by the judges for foul riding. After Mark Time won the third race, "Red" Walker bid him up 00 over his entered price of 00, but failed to get him. Jockey D. Riley, who is on the outlaw list of the Jockey Club for having ridden at Norfolk, Va., had two mounts this afternoon. The American Turf Association and the Kentucky Racing Commission have no "outlaw" clauses in their rules. M. J. Winn was among todays arrivals from Louisville. Politics was solely the cause for surrender of the fall dates at. Louisville -was his explanation. In speaking of the New Orleans prospects, he said that G17 horses from New York had been booked for stable room at the two tracks. Secretary Ed Maginn is due to arrive tomorrow and will assign western horsemen stable room and take entries to the stakes. S. F. Heaslip and William J. OBrien, who attended the meeting of the American Association yesterday in Louisville, got in today. Mr. Heaslip was not at the track but will visit Latonia tomorrow. J. C. Milam shipped Coaster and Galardia to Lexington to be turned out for the season. Starter Holtman will be unable to state positively until next Monday whether he will be able to do the starting at City Park pending Mars Cassidys arrival there. George Withers will campaign Gold Run, Lord Radnor and Rolla at New Orleans.
