VICTORIA VENTURE LOYALLY SUPPORTED. Entire Community Seemingly Interested in Success of Summer Racing. Victoria. R. O.. June 9. — All Victoria is deliglvted with the way in which the summer race meeting of tlie Victoria Country Club, scheduled to run sixty-one days, has opened up. Tlie entire community is displaying a keen solicitude in tlie success of the undertaking, and the management of tie meeting is receiving encouragement from every quarter, tin opening day the officers of the British warships Shearwater and Egerin detailed a squad of bluejackets to attend to the decoration of the grandstand with bunting and Hags from the ships, in acknowledgment of an invitation extended to the officers ami 1O0 of the bluejackets to attend the races as guests of the management. The effect of the man-o-war mens efforts was greatly admired by tlie big crowd that turned out to patronize the races. The Colonist. Victorias leading daily, in the course of a commendatory editorial concerning the opening of the meeting, had this to sa.y: "The venture is necessarily to a certain extent speculative. This city alone could not possibly support a sixty-days race meeting, and very much of the patronage must come from outside. Whether this will be sufficient to make the venture profitable cannot at this time be foretold. A successful race meeting of such long duration would be the tueain of leaving a good deal of money in the city."
