YEARLINGS IN TRAINING AT LEXINGTON. Lexington. Ky.. August 21. An unusually large number of yearlings are to be broken and trained at the local track this fall. There are already on the grounds more than 100 youngsters, and fully as many more will be in by September 1. The half-brother to Waldo, and two others in "the stable of W. S. Williams, are the most forward in their training. They had about thirty days handling at the farm near Spring Station before coming to the track, and they are the only ones that have been galloping quarters up to this time. The half-brother to Waldo a bay gelding, by Garry Hermann Salama. bv Hlmyar has a racy appearance, and his voung trainer, likewise his father. Captain Jim Williams, sets great store by him. . Among the latest arrivals at the track are eighteen yearlings that Colonel W. E. Applegate had at the farm of John D. Carr. They are in the barns of James P. Ross and John Rodegap. each taking nine. Colonel Applegate left the selection of the yearlings to the two trainers, and they tossed up for first choice. Ross won the toss and picked the bav colt by McGee Fron Frou. by- Meddler, for which Colonel Applegate paid 00 at Edward Corrigans dispersal sale last fall. He Is unquestionably the best of the eighteen, and is probably worth all of the others combined. Of the nine in Rodegaps charge, the half-brother to Wool Sandals and the colt out of Leopoldina are the best appearing. The list is as follows: Bay colt, by Woolsthorpe Leopoldina. Rodegap has three other yearlings, two fillies by Woolsthorpe. out of Fluid and Princess Lucille respectively, belonging to W. J. Young, and a chestnut tolt named Ben Washer, by St. Dory Kate Treacy. belonging to J. C. Rogers, and he is making preparations for the coming of eight more from Raeeland Farm. They include four in which Walter Jennings bought a half interest from Catesby Woodford. The other four, two by Orlando and two by Sir Dixon, are the property of Mr. Woodford; This" will give Rodegap the largest string on the grounds; thirty-four. The others are two and three-year-olds.
