HIGH NOONS GREAT SPEED TAKES THE TOBOGGAN HANDICAP FROM FAST SPRINTERS WITH ALL EASE. Koh-i-noor Proves Victress in the Fashion Stakes — Flying Fairy Returns to Winning Form —Sam HcMeekin Again. Now York. Juno 3. — A forbidding sky did not keep the attendance down :it Hclmoiii Park today and a tremendous crowd was on hand. The Tolioggan Handicap and the Fashion Stakes divided interest. both attracting extra good fields and providing stirring eontesis. In fact, the entire days racing from every standpoint was surpassed by no day of the present meeting. The Hutlcr colt High Noon, last years winner of the Mmku, was especially well liked for this years renewal of the race, and Koh-i-noor, from the 8. L. 1arsons stable, which won her initial start a few days ago, received heavy spi ort in the Fashion Stakes. The remainder of the card consisted of small fields. Ennlen. highly thought of as a two-year-old, made his appearance in the opener when he met a mediocre hand of horses at three-quarters. He was held at short odds ami finished second to Schoolboy from the l.ntler table. History repeated itself when High Noon. James Butlers sterling sprinter, won the twenty -third running of the Toboggan Handicap. The big sprinter was asked to carry 124 pounds and met worthy opposition, and the manner in which lie accomplished his victory leaves no doubt as to his rare qualities as a sprinter. LeftM sent him into an early lead, which he maintained to the end, and. although he tried to bear out a trifle an eighth from home, he finished running true and seemingly with speed in reserve. Benevolent took second place over the tiring Ihosphor. which gave way after closely following the winner. The Toboggan was worth ,990 net. The Fashion stakes, for two-year-old fillies, worth . S0« net. went to S. L. Parsons Koh-i-noor which won by a narrow margin over Pleasant Dreams. The winner was installed an odds favorite and after Iwing well up throughout just lasted long enough. Idle Hour from the Whitney Stable, essaying her first start, ran a bit greenly. Flying Fiary showed a return to her "old time form wheu she won the second race from Woodward and Sharpshooter. The Oeaaett mare ran well and stayed gamely. Sharpshooter, the favorite, failed to run up to expectations. Sam McMeekin took the fifth over Sasin. the favorite. The latter was away slowly, in fact practically left, and made up much ground, but the early effort proved to exacting. Ambrose finished third after again running wide on the stretch turn. I.ykes, who had the mount today, was unable to keep the horse in. which was the direct causa of the suspension of the apprentice rider. It. Ball, perhaps the best light rider here, and who rode the horse in his previous start. The steeplechaser New Hiver was destroyed this morning, having sustained injuries while at work which rendered it necessary. Well-bucked horses were again in the limelight, the victory of High Noon, perhaps, being the most popular of the afternoon. It was the second success of the day for the Butler colors. Trainer J. Simon Healy was much gratified over the form Flying Fairy displayed today and expressed himself by stating that it was "a wonderful come-back." Kmil Hcrz claimed Sasin out of the fifth race f r ,450.
