INCREASED CHASE VALUES Westchester Racing Association Adds Materially to Its Over ¬ night Purse Offerings NEW YORK N Y March 23 It has been announced that there will be a material in ¬ crease in the value of the steeplechases at Belmont Park this year A greater number of races through the field will be programmed and there will be JlaOO added to the handi ¬ caps while the other overnight races will be of JlJOO added value valueThis This is a move that will be greatly appre ¬ ciated by the owners of steeplechase stables and it is sure to work a great good in the sport In recent years several of the stables have shipped to Canada because the purses about New York were not attractive enough This raising of the values will keep most of these establishments at home and when the sportsmen themselves show a proper appreciation of the liberality it will mean that the crosscountry sport wil rapidly come back to its proper place placeThere There has been no end of interest injected into the steeplechase poparations for this year and if it should fail to bring the de ¬ sired result this year it will be strange in ¬ deed The races have always been tre ¬ mendously popular spectacles with the crowd and the promise of a real awakening means much for the whole turf turfIt It is almost certain that the Queens County Jockey Club the only other Long Island association to give steeplechasing will fol ¬ low the lead of Belmont Park for its Aque ¬ duct meeting while Saratoga will doubtless also make an increase in the value of its overnight steeplechase purses
