NEW YORK TURF NEWS NEW YORK, N. Y.. Apin 13.— Mr. and Mrs. Payne Whitney visited Belmont Park Monday morning to see their Greentree Stable Kentucky Derby candidate Hedge-fence work an easy half mile over the training track. The winner of the Tijuana Derby appeared in fine condition in spite of the fact that he has been on the grounds only a few* days since his transcontinental journey. He went the half in :51Vk, covering the first quarter in :24 and the three-eighths in :37. Cherry Pie, which also raced at Tijuana, was sent an easy half in :50%. He went the first quarter in :24%. Cherry Pie, son of Mrs. Whitneys fine jumping marc Cherry Malotte is one of her favorites. While the appearance of the newcomer Hcdgefence was the feature of the morning, work watchers found plenty of attraction in the gallops of Felix, George D. W doners Derby hope. He went a mile in 1 :46%. The quarter was reached in :20%. the half in :52% and three-quarters in 1 :14%. Marshall Field III.s Stimulus went an easy mile in 1 :50. He was not asked for speed. A cold northwest wind made training conditions far from favorable and prevented the trainers from attempting to work their charges at fast paces, although the going was in excellent condition.
