JOCKEY CLUB MEETING H. K. Knapps Resignation as Steward Accepted With Regret. A. H. Morris Elected to Succeed Him — Trainers and Jockeys Receive Licenses. NEW YORK. N. Y., April 13— At the recent meeting of the stewards of The Jockey Club, much business was transacted, but the reception of the resignation of H. K. Knapp as a steward of the organization surpassed in importance all other matters under consideration and cast a gloom over the gathering. Mr. Knapp has not been in good health for some time and there was sincere regret that such action was necessary. The stewards present at the meeting were F. K. Sturgis. chairman: J. E. Cowdin. J. E. Davis, F. R. Hitchcock, J. E. Widener, Payne Whitney and William Woodward. A. H. Morris, a member of The Jockey Club, was elected a steward to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Mr. Knapp. The following stewards to represent The Jockey Club at the various meetings in this state during the coming racing season were appointed. United Hunts, F. S. Von Stade ; Metropolitan Jockey Club Jamaica. John E. Cowdin ; Westchester Racing Association Belmont Park. J. E. Widener; Queens County Jockey Club Aqueduct, EL W. Maxwell ; Empire City Racing Association Yon-kers. A. H. Morris; Saratoga Association Saratoga Springs, J. E. Widener; Westchester Racing Association Belmont Park autumn meeting. J. E. Widener. Algernon Daingerfield was appointed assistant secretary-treasurer. John G. Dorsey, ruled off the turf in 1904, : was restored to good standing. Thomas Mc-i Elrcy, whose entries were refused in 191S, ! was also placed in good standing. At the meeting of The Jockey Club, which preceded that of the stewards, there wer- present F. K Sturgis. Wridener and William Woodward. It was decided to increase the annual dues to membership in The Jockey Club from 00 to 00. The following addition to the rules of racing was adopted : "The secretary of the association shall retain 2 per cent of the gross value to the winner of every race, stake or purse exceeding ,500 and 1 per cent of the gross value to the winner of every race, stake or purse amounting to ,500 or less, and shall pay I these amounts to The Jockey Club." Walter M. Jeffords of Glen Riddle. Pa.. iwas elected a member of The Jockey Club. ! Mr. Jeffords is one of the best known of the j younger racing set and is a breeder of blood-I stock as well as an enthusiastic- follower of the hounds.
