MR. BUTLERS DERBY COLTS Colonel Winn, Returning to the Downs, Brings News of Condition of Bright Steel and Pique. LOUISVILLE. Ky_ April 13.— Col. Matt J. Winn, general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club, who has just returned from New York, brings glowing reports concerning I i the splendid manner in which James Butlers j pair of Kentucky Detfey candidates. Bright]! I .!. Steel and Pique, are advancing in their ;• training. Both colts are at Mr. Butlers East! i j , View Farm, near Tarrytown. N. Y.. under! the care of W. B. Finnigan, who recently I was engaged to train for Mr. Butler. Bright Steel and Pique are both highly | regarded by Mr. Butler, who fully intends , I i | sending them to Louisville to fill their Derby i engagements. Both colts had a lot of racing ; 1 ! last year and. having been galloped all win- ■ j ter. are well seasoned in their preparation. | Bright Steel started eighteen times last I year and won three. Pique eiigaged in thirteen races and won two of them. Both are by Mr. Butlers stallion. Spur. and are the product of the Butler breeding j farm. Mr. Butler is a close personal friend I of Colonel Winn and will be here with a party of friends to see the Derby. The Butler colors were carried in the famous race when Pebbles finished second to Regret in the 1915 renewal.
