Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of April 14, l»05 Racing at New Orleans and Memphis. There is to be a Cup race at two and a quarter miles, with ,000 added, on May 6, the closing day at Oakland: After a hurried visit, Edward Corrigan left New Orleans today for St. Louis to attend a meeting of the American Turf Association, which will be held in St. Louis tomorrow. Green B. Morris purchased the chestnut horre Demurrer at auction in the paddock at City Park, New Orleans, this morning, and then sold the horse at an advance to Orville West. Sec. W. P. Riggs, after closing the purchase of the old Pimlico course at Baltimore fcr 0,000, said: "It is too early to say just what we will do, but the racing public can rest assured that every improvement needed to make the course up to date and first class will receive the attention of the Maryland Jockey Club. It is already decided to build a seven-furlong chute, something the track needs badly." Capt. S. S. Brown will go to Cincinnati from Lexington to consult with Mayor Julius Fleischmann with reference to the proposed peace meeting between committees from the American Turf Association and the Western Jockey Club. Captain Brown was in consultation with T. C. McDowell today. The board of directors of the American Turf Association will meet in St. Louis tomorrow and it is likely that the views of the members on the subject of a peace plan will be formulated and transmitted to Capt. S. S. Brown and Messrs. Fleischmann and McDowell. President Winn has been in St. Louis for several days. Edward Corrigan is on his way to the Mound City from New Orleans. W. O. Parmer will come from Nashville. Campbell Scott will come from Lexington and treasurer OBrien will come from Chicago. *
