GENE ELRODS SUCCESSOR Colonel Winn Appoints Erwin Wiedekamp as Manager of Pari-Mutuel Department. LOUISVILLR. Ky.. April 1.1.— The announcement by Colonel Winn, Saturday, that he had appointed Krwin Wiedekamp, of Louisville, to succeed the late Kugene Elrod as manager of the pari-mutuel departments at Churchill Downs and Latonia. was pleasing to Mr. Wiedekamps many friends and acquaintances in this city, who regard him as the right man for the place so long filled by Mr. Klrod. Wiedekamp is *a native of Louisville, and makes his home at 228 South Hancock street. He has been employed at Churchill Downs for the past fifteen years, entering the service of Mr. Elrod when the bookmakers held forth at that track. An electrician by trade, Mr. Wiedekamp proved to be a valuable member of Mr. Kl-rods force, and his qualifications here soon were recognized by his late superior, who made him his chief assistant shortly after the pari-mutuels were installed here. During Mr. Elrods long illness two years ago. Mr. Wiedekamp assumed his place as head of the department. There were a number of other applicants for the place to which Mr. Wiedekamp has just been appointed. Who will be placed in charge of the Lexington mutuel department hits not yet been decided upon, but it is believed that if Mr. Wiedekamp is not named Ford McClune. calculator in the mutuels for many years, and a resident of Lexington, will be selected. ♦
