Teller r Archibalds Candy Queen ran the fastest t three-quarters Derby trial of the present t training season when she negotiated the distance in 1 :13 at Churchill Downs this morning. The filly was unaccompanied in her trial [ and broke at the three-quarters post with h Leo McDermott in the saddle. Her fractional time was :12, :2:!, :Z5, Al2. 1:00 for the first five-eighths. She was eased after passing the three-quarters post and covered the seven-eighths in 1 :28, and galloped out a mile in 1 :46. The filly was on the rail all the way where the track is deeper than any other part of it, and the trial was a sparkling good one. Candy Queen did not take a long breath when she returned to the starting place for McDermott to dismount. Trainer Louie Tauber of the McLean Stable worked War Eagle a mile in 1 :42. and eased up a mile and one-eighth in 1 :i6%. The son of Man o War covered the first three-quarters in the fractional time of :24%, :49%, 1:15%. He did it handily and appears ready to go on farther as soon as the question is asked him. Charles Hughes breezed Canaan, the Derby candidate from the IeMar Stable, for a mile in company with Profiteer, a candidate for the Clark Handicap. This pair went the first quarter in :25*s, half in :51, three-quarters in 1:16%, mile in 1:45. Canaan shows well for having been out of commission for fifteen days after the mishap he met with at Churchill Downs, when he suffered a stone bruise on one of his front legs. Candy Blackbird, Candy Rock and Candy the Ireat were breezed together by trainer Walker of the Archibald stable for three-quarters in 1:17. The first half was covered in :51, where Candy the Great dropped out.
