| LATEST LEXINGTON NOTES | s - s LEXINGTON, Ky., May 4. G. L. Strang has bred his Jack Atkin mare, Maria Augusta, to the young stallion Cherokee which is standing at the Gallaher Farm near this city. The horses Fretwell, and Trydor, property of M. Lowenstein, were vanned to Churchill I »owns Sunday to rejoin the Lowenstein string there. Jockey M. Garner also departed for Churchill Downs, where he will ride during the coming meeting. Eleven horses belonging to the stable of H. P. Headley were transferred to Churchill Downs Wednesday morning. Helens Babe, Handy Mandy, Almadel, Soiree and Sea Drift, a division of the Headley Stable, that was shi-pped last Saturday to Pimlico, are now on their way to Churchill Downs, according to word trainer W. W. Taylor received this morning from Mr. Headley, who accompanied his horses East. Helens Babe and Almadel were starters in the Dixie Handicap Monday. This morning brought the transfer of additional stables from Lexington to Louisville and included in the number were those of J. N. Camden and J. C. Milam. The Camden establishment included Hydromel, the stables main hope for the Kentucky Derby, and Mr. Kirkwood, which turned in a fine Derby trial Monday, headed the Milam shipment. Rolled Stocking was among the horses C. C. Van Meter sent to the Downs, while F. J. Kelleys Bonaire, which suffered a spread foot in his race yesterday, was left here with three others carded to race today or tomorrow. Jim lass is In charge of the four in quarters here. Jockey N. J. Barnes, who suffered minor injuries in a fall from Capt. Saufley in the first race Monday, cancelled the mount on Myrtle Rion Tuesday, but hopes to resume riding shortly. R. C. Frakes has arranged to transfer his big stable to Churchill Downs, Thursday, and the J. T. Looney establishment will leave for the same course the following day. H. E. Hart, owner of the Swingalong Stable, probably will ship from here to Canada. He is awaiting word regarding stalls before making a definite schedule for the late spring and summer. Shortly after the running of the third race Tuesday, trainer H. J. Thompson sent Col. E. R. Bradleys Buddy Bauer and Boot to Boot to the track for an easy mile. The former, I Mr. Bradleys chief hope for Kentucky Derby j honors, galloped the distance in 1:41%, while Boot to Boot negotiated his mile in 1:41%. Through an error in compilation in the secretarys office of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, J. S. Hawkins application for a trainers license was among the list held up. His application had been granted. Alfred Johnson, who suffered a kick from Bewithus recently, is showing no effects from the injury and will have the mount on Boot to Boot in the Clark Handicap at Louisville, Saturday, and leave that night for Pimlico, where he will have the mount on Bewithus in the Preakness Stakes. Starter Hamilton has lifted the suspensions against jockeys D. Smith and F. Chia-vetta and they will accept mounts Wednesday. They were set down for disobedience while at the barrier and served three days each. ♦ 1
