WINS SPECTACULAR VICTORY » Rancocas Stables Sublevado Victorious in Hard Drive at Jamaica. I.aurclton Handicap Falls to Son of Luenllite in Sensational Fashion — The Tartar Scores. NEW YORK. X. Y., May 2.— Another of the Rancocas Stables three-year-olds came back brilliantly at Jamaica today, when Sublevado was a sensational winner of the three-quarters Laurelton Handicap. Only J. L. Hollands Ramoncur and Gifford A. Cochrans Nusakan started with the son of Lucullite, but it brought about an excellent contest. With a return of delightful spring weather the conditions were ideal for the sport and there was a good crowd on hand. The races furnished excellent entertainment and, while some of the winners had plenty to spare at the end the events were not without plenty of thrills. In the Laurelu-n Handicap, it may have been orders or it may have been the ideas of the riders themselves, but Fator used better judgment than either Mack Garner, on Ra-moneur, or Pascuma, on Nusakan. These two, closely lapped, were rushed along at a terrific pace from the rise of the barrier, while Fator was more patient, and he permitted Sublevado to settle into his stride and have him make his run where it would count. Neither Garner or Pascuma would take back and they were trying to have their mounts do it all in one breath. This took them half a dozen lengths before Sublevado and. on the turn out of the back stretch, there seemed little hope that the son of Lucullite would close the gap. But one of the leaders was bound to tire under the strain and. on the stretch turn, it was Nusakan which showed signs of quitting. GREAT CLOSING HUSH. Ramoncur was tiring also and Fator was bringing Sublevp.do along with a great rush. He swung outside the other two, but he was still lengths back at the head of the stretch, though gaining with each stride. At the eighth post he had Nusaken beaten and was alongside Ramoncur. The gray colt had nothing left to withstand that charge and Sublevado was on past to win by two lengths while Ramoneur beat Nusakan by a length and a half for second place. Joe Edwards Green Flag slipped through on the inside in the stretch run of the opening five-eighths dash for plater juveniles, to beat home "Doc" Riddles Lydia B., whi.e Mrs. Clyde Phillips Domulalia, after having cut out all the running, saved third from Roodles. The start was a good one and Roodles was first to show out of the company, but Domu-lalia left in her stride and she soon raced by him to open up daylight on her company. Lydia B. found her way into second place, and then followed Roodles and Singlestick, with Green Flag further back and just a bit slow to be under way. There was little change in these positions until nearing the stretch turn, where Mc-Tague rushed up on the inside with Green Flag and, under a drive*, the son of Bunting came through to win. vigorously ridden out, by two lengths. Lydia B. hung on well to beat the tiring Domulalia, and the others trailed along in strung-out order. THE TAMTAM IMPRESSIVELY. H. P. Whitneys The Tartar made a show of the three-year-olds which opposed him in the three-quarters of the second race. Showing improved form, he was rushed into an early lead by Workman and he continued to widen his advantage until at the end he was eight lengths clear. Carlino was second virtually all the way, while the Rancocas Stables Daric slipped through right at the end to beat Frederick Johnstons Lane Allen, the brother to Brown Bud, for third. Clairdine showed just a flash of speed leaving the barrier, but J. Wilson, the little colored boy who had the mount, was unable to keep her with the procession when the pace quickened and she dropped back rather badly. Daris was away slowly and it took him some time to find his best speed. When he finally settled into his stride he closed a considerable gap to take down the short end of the purse. 1 *
