FOREIGN TURF NOTES $ * SYDNEY, Australia. At the Echoes races recently Catamaraa and I are dead heated for first in the Welter Handicap. In the run-off, another dead heat resulted, and the stake was then divided. Some seasons back Royal Token and Amnemonic dead heated twice in a race at Werribee. As a sequel to the disqufilifiontion of a jockey at Laura S. A. on Kaster Monday-over a battery incident, the stewards pursued their investigations further and the upshot was that N. Krogdahl trainer and the horse Bowalla were also disqualified for life for alleged complicity. More than -200 racegoers were injured, at Ilosebcry on May 5 when a portion of the St. Leger stand collapsed. Maddened with fear, the crowd stampeded and this was actually the cause of many of the injuries, most of which were minor ons. So unusual is an accident of this description that the club has no comprehensive insurance policy to cover such happenings, preferring to carry the liabilities itself. However. luckily the seriously injured were few, and it is not likely that the directors will sustain a heavy loss. The stand was built fourteen years ago of Oregon joists and hardwood decking.
