SANKARI MAKES GOOD R. C. Stable Star Shortest Priced Winner of Arlington Meeting. « . Son of The Finn Easily Outruns King Basil and Honi Soit — Track Much Improved. • ARLINGTON HEIGHTS. June 8.— The R. C. Stables recent acquisition, Sankari, scored his first success in these parts when lie accounted for the seven-eighths mile handicap that was intended as Arlington Parks feature race. He won well in hand after early pressure to pass Honi Soit for the lead. King Basil finished in second place and Honi Soit was better than the others. The early stages found Honi Soit in possession of the lead, attended by Anita M. and Cecelia Grob. There was no more change in the running for half a mile excepting that King Basil dropped completely out of it. Sankari was going sluggishly and Elston was forced to apply the whip to him. He responded with determination and. gaining steadily, overhauled Honi Soit, but King Basil became a menace in the stretch and again Sankari had to be roused. He was going easily at the finish with two lengths to spare. King Basil easily downed the others. Sankari was an outstanding favorite, the shortest priced favorite of the present meeting. Marked improvement in track conditions and more suitable weather were factors in bringing out a good crowd during the afternoon. Some spirited racing resulted. JOHN" JOHNSON" JR. SCORES John Johnson Jr., which in a preceding start showed a winning effort though he did not figure seriously, was installed the favorite for the fourth race, at one mile and seventy yards over the inner track. Betting judgment was correct in this instance, as John Johnson Jr.. und?r a good ride, easily proved best and won from Jim Bridger. with Profiteer in third place. Profiteer was looked upon as the likeliest to give John Johnson Jr., the most opposition, but Hardy, for some reason, took him back soon after the start and failed to recover the lost ground when be was urged hard in the stretch. The race marked the debut for the apprentice R. Morrison, who rode Jim Bridger, and he rode in better style than som? of the more experienced riders at the course. The favorite players began auspiciously when they selected Talladega as the most likely one to win the opener. A close finish ensued with Talladega setting home by half a length in advance of Jeb. with Edgewater in third place. There was quite a bit of activity about Levoy. but he raced poorly and the ride he got did not help him to any extent. The J. N. Camden successes followed in succession. Tamina landing the first part of the double when she was home in the maiden race in advance of Mary Seth, which had been the early leader but which gave way steadily in the stretch to Tamina, Peace Baby, coming with a rush, landed in third place. J. X. C VMDF.X DOUBLE. Martinique completed the Camden double when he made a runaway race of the third. in which Din. pie punkie was the favored one. The latter was beaten after three-quarters and succumbed near the end to Vowed Vengeance. The Valley Farm Stable earned its first victory of the meeting when Doctor Fred, backed into favoritism, was an easy winner of the sixth race from Captain Haney, with Knave of Clubs third. The winner raced as if best, for he came away in the stretch to win with much in reserve. Captain Haney came from far back to down Knave of Clubs. Xtra scored a lucky victory in the final race. It was accomplished as a result of slipping through next the inner rail at the stretch turn. which saved considerable ground for her and she managed to outstay Ralph Hartenstetn. The latter was pounds the best, but was given a badly-judged ride and raced wide for the entire distance. Tirza, the favorite, just managed to outstay Ohio for third place. *
