LADIES DAY AT OMAHA Waimanu Defeats Conquistador in Thrilling: Stretch Duel — Western Eagle Takes Opener. OMAHA, Neb., June 8.— This was Ladies Day at Ak-Sar-Ben Field and an exceptionally large week-day crowd was present. The fair sex were well represented and the new ladies wagering booths were liberally patronized. Waimanu defeated Conquistador in one of the best races of the afternoon. This pair and six others started in the third race and, after Conquistador had shown the way to the stretch, the Hawaiian-bred caught him and had the better of a hard stretch battle. Beauty Star was third, while the favorite, Centimeter, finished last. Western Eagle defeated a fair band of two-year-olds in the first race. Omarsan was favored to win this, but finished unplaced. Second place went to the outsider, Queer-quill, while Graceland was third. Gareth, making his first start of the meeting, accounted for the second race, beating Lady Rose and Duffs Time to the wire. The Governors Handicap, which carries a purse of ,000, will be tomorrows feature, and eleven of the best sprinters at the track will race three-quarters in this. ♦
