BURKE BACK IN STANDING His and Trainers Applications Acted on Favorably by Jockey Club Stewards. XEAV YORK, N. Y., May 16.— James Burke, jockey, and Joe Stern, trainer, whose applications for licenses were held up by The Jockey Club, Mere among those restored to good standing yesterday at a meeting of the stewards at the Jockey Club offices, 250 Park Avenue. They also approved the applications of P. G. Codd and George Phillips, both trainers. The application of Fred Sharpe, jockey, Mas laid on the table. He had been granted a temporary license, but Mas suspended a week ago when he is said to have reporfd at Jamaica in a condition unfit to ride. Those present Mere: F. K. Sturgis, William Woodward, John E. Cowdin, Joseph E. Davis, A. H. Morris, R. T. Wilson. Vice Chairman Woodward presided. The appointment of George Cassidy as assistant starter for the year 1919 was confirmed. Applications to register and name horses as recommended by the Registrar of the Jockey Club, Mere approved. The approval of the steMards of the Jockey Club was granted the Queens County Jockey Club to use the Waite stall gates at the summer meeting of the Queens County Jockey Club at certain starting points under certain restrictions. Many jockeys and trainers licenses were granted, as recommended by the license committee, and routine business was transacted. The license committee of the stewards of the Jockey Club held a meeting and made recommendations to the stewards of the Jockey Club, which Mere adopted. ♦
