MARYLAND BREEDERS MEET Advocate Elimination Races and Sponsor Special Stake Races — List of Officers. BALTIMORE, Md., May 16.— A meeting of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Inc., was held in the Pimlico club house through the courtesy of the Maryland Jockey Club. Fifty-two of the ninety members of the association were present. James A. Latane, chairman of the Maryland Racing Commission, was introduced by C. L. A. Reiser, president of the association, and he expressed his appreciation of the work this organization is trying to do and the purpose of its organization. There was a general discussion of work the organization might do, and the following resolutions were passed : "Resolved, That the racing commission be requested to instruct one mile tracks to provide an elimination race each week, the winner of such a race to be forfeited by the owner to be placed with this association and sold by them or given away under the direction and with the consent of the racing commission. "Resolved, That a committee of Messrs. J. E. Griffith, S. W. Labrot and Breckinridge Long be appointed to confer with the racing commission in regard to races for Maryland-bred horses, particularly for a stake to be held in the fall of 1930. "Resolved, That the Maryland Horse Breeders Association hold a colt show in the fall of 1929 and that the Maryland Racing Commission be requested to allow the mile tracks to contribute to this show for expenses." S. W. Labrot offered to add ,000 to a stake for Maryland-bred two-year-olds to be run in the fall of 1930, provided the association adds another ,000 and the track where the race is run adds ,000 or more. After discussion it was resolved to appoint a committee to confer with the racing commission. Major Stryker offered, if the colt show is held, to add 00 for one class, and other breeders said they would contribute. It was resolved to hold the show and request contributions from the various organizations interested in racing and breeding, and from breeders. Officers of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Inc., are C. L. A. Heiser, president ; J. Edwin Griffith, first vice-president ; Breckinridge Long, second vice-president ; Dr. J. Fred Adams, member executive committee, and Louis McL. Merryman, secretary-treasurer. The directors are Dr. J. Fred Adams, H. G. Bedwell, Howard Bruce, Dr. M. L. Cromwell, W. J. Demoss, B. M. Dever, Major L. H. Drennan, Janon Fisher, Jr., Clarence Gilpin, J. Edwin Griffith, C. L. A. Heiser, G. H. Hibbard, Thomas Keating, Jr., Leslie U. Keiffer, Sylvester Labrot, Breckinridge Long, Louis McL. Merryman, C. Wilbur Miller, Augustus Riggs, Major G. L. Stryker and Edwin Warfield. Offices are at Sparks, Md. *
