w BAR COURSE TO PUBLIC? LONDON, England, May 16. — Before the Epsom summer meeting next month many improvements will be completed, some of which may not be to the liking of some members of the Jockey Club enclosure. While it has not been definitely decided, it is likely that the course will be closed to all except horses and their attendants. A passage may be made at the back of the stands and a field entrance provided to the paddock. This would be for the use of occupants of Tattersalls, members of the Jockey Club enclosure, and of Princes Club, which has for a number of years been leased by Major Gordon Hill to Viscount Portman and his friends. When the gate was closed from Tattersalls ring to the course, there was an outcry from the public, as there is against most innovations. The resentment has died down, and maybe the opposition to the new proposal also may be short-lived. If it is brought into effect, it will be in consequence of the "mobbing" which the public gave the Derby horses as they came on to the course last year. One of the horses that was then upset by the pressing of the crowd on his quarters was Fairway. It is from a desire to protect Derby horses this year from such an ordeal that the course may be closed to the public.
