DINNER DANCE IN BEST FORM ♦ Carries Colors of R. S. Clark to Victory at Latonia. » Displays Brilliant Speed Bat Is Forced Oat to Limit to Withstand Agitator at Finish. LATONIA, Ky., June 20.— Dinner Dance, a rank offender in previous races this season, displayed his best form in carrying the colors of R. S. Clark to victory in the Westwood Purse, the best race on the Latonia program today. While his performance was an improved one o%-er recent showings. Earl Pool was forced to call upon him for his utmost, as the belated rush of H. P. Whitneys Agitator was such that he raced the winner to a necks difference at the end of three-quarters. Agitator finished far in advance of Nellie Custis, which took third place from Energy. Setting a fast pace from the start. Dinner Dance never relinquished the lead and on the turn into the stretch opened up the commanding margin of five lengths. This he managed to retain for almost an eighth, but upon reaching the final eighth he began shortening his strides and thus forced his rider to keep hard at him in his successful repulse of Agitator, which gained gradually in the late stages. Nellie Custis, which Agitator wore down quickly, had been a contender from the start and she also found the final pace too fast While racing close up in the early stages she might have suffered some interference from Dr. Parrish. which appeared inclined to swerve, as he showed fine speed for a half mile before he tired suddenly. Energy, of which much was expected, had his chances greatly reduced when he was caught in a jam near the turn. Previous to the start. Uptime, which had a scattered following, broke through the barrier and sprinted off about three-sixteenths of a mile before being brought under control. While Dinner Dance traversed the distance in 1:11%, the track, though fast, was somewhat deeper than it has been during the meeting.
