ERIN QUEEN BIG SURPRISE Takes Measure of Jessie Carey in Stellar Attraction. ♦ Grimm and Gorly Purse Headlines Program at Collinsville — Princess Evol Popular Winner. ♦ COLLINSVILLE, 111.. June 20— The Crimm and Gorly Purse, principal attraction offered at Fairmount this afternoon, bringing out a band of three-year-olds to race over three- quarters of a mile, resulted in a mediocre contest and a big surprise in the victory of the Audley Farms Erin Queen, a maiden daughter of St. Henry— Irish Lassie. Erin Queen graduated into the winning class with an easy victory scored over the Oakland Farms Jessie Carey, which raced to second plae. beaten a length and a half for the purse by the winner. The time in which Erin Queen got over the three-quarters was only 1 :13% over the fast track which prevailed. Jessie Carey was only able to narrowly outfinish J. C. Milams Scae-let Brigade for second place, while Scarlet Brigade, after a good effort, tired in the final few yards, but easily led in V. Sutos Islam. Erin Queen, ridden by the veteran A. Yer-rat, sprinted into the lead at the start, continued to show much the most speed all the way and easily made every post a winning one. Scarlet Brigade, in closest pursuit of tha winner to the stretch, held on well but, tiring, was unable to withstand Jessie Carey. Islam was outrun all the way, but closed quite a gap in the last quarter, finishing fast. The feature race had G. Collins Golden Canopy, a recent winner here, at one mile, for a prohibitive favorite. Golden Canopy ruling at odds of slightly better than even money. Aside from showing a brief flash of early speed in the first quarter mile, the favorite was a complete failure, providing a big disappointment, quitting almost to a walk, and finishing ninth, beaten off. His race was decidedly poor. Maiden two-year-old fillies provided a good contest, which resulted in an exciting finish with the favorite. Princess Evol, just lasting to win by a small margin from the fast-finishing Nettie Pebbles and Princess Isabel. In this race Princess Evol sprinted into the lead at the start and set a good pace in a safe lead to the stretch, where she then began tiring and, under hard riding, just succeeded in out finishing the others. Nettie Pebbles was always a factor, came again in the stretch and nearly wore down the winner, but in turn just outlasted Princess Isabel, which came from far book and finished fastest of all.
