GOODRICH THRICE WINNER Has Mounts on Lucky Drift, Oblique and Gideon at Wheel- ing Track. WHEELING, W. Va., April 10. Over a good track the Wheeling Driving Clubs racing was staged at the Fair Grounds this afternoon and the weather was all that could be desired. The attendance was up to the standard for a mid-week day and there was an abundance of contention in all of the seven events. Taking command at once, Lucky Drift retained a safe margin over her opposition at all stages of the initial dash. Sunolin and Lang provided a stirring stretch struggle for the second honor, but Sunolin proved the gamer when the final test came. Gay Broeck was prominent for half the trip, but tired badly. Fortunate in securing an opening next the inner rail when rounding the first turn. Belles Title displayed the most speed thereafter to annex the second dash rather handily. Getgoin came from far back during the last half of the race and outstayed the others for second. Crooning made a game finish to outstay the resolutely finishing Red Likker for third. Nigricant displayed good speed for a half mile, then weakened. In the first claim of the meeting G. F. Jenkins secured Tetra Glass for ?1,500 from the Seagram Stable. Oblique outsprinted his opposition to the first turn in the third race and, once in command, was never headed for the balance of the trip. Buchon was always in closest pursuit of the winner, but was doing his best at the end to outlast Dodie Leighton for the second honors. This trio dominated the running throughout. Steadily improving his position, Autumn Bloom raced over the leaders during the last quarter of the fourth dash to win with considerable to spare. Timekeeper also closed considerable ground and eventually outlasted the tiring pacemaker, Curveur, for second. Amir tired after forcing the early pace. Previous to the running of the third race trainer J. M. Lewis was seriously kicked by Oblique while in the paddock. He was removed to the Ohio Valley Hospital suffering from internal injuries and a probable fracture of the pelvis bone. The two-year-old Early was badly cut during the running of the second race and will be on the shelf for some time. H. W. Millers Gideon accounted for the fifth event, which attracted one of the best fields at the Fair Grounds this afternoon. He was ably piloted by jockey E. Goodrich, which marked the third victory for the lad out of four mounts. Securing an early lead, Gideon was never in trouble. Merry Windsor retained a safe margin over Black Alice throughout for second. The two remaining starters were never serious factors. Lac-tarius chances were ruined when he dwelt as the start came.
