LEITER FILLY GRADUATES Princess Peroxide Wins Edgemont Purse at Fairmount Park Laura Tfcglcy Is Second and 3IIss Tfoali Third Thirdin in TwoYcarOld Feature runklo runkloIs Is Victor In Third COLLINSVILLE 111 May 20 Princess Peroxide a daughter of Royal Canopy Pyroxene saddled by W J Hughes for owner J Leiter graduated in winning the Edgemout Purse one of the features of todays card at Fairmount Park This maiden filly was facing against others of her age that had won races and she made a very impressive showing when she led Laura Neg ley Miss Noah and several more to the finish line She did not lack support for she had previously run two good races at this track after coming here from Maryland MarylandE E E Major won his first purse of the meeting when Charming Lady scored over a band of the ordinary grade in the three quarters first race The place went to the wellplayed Thistle Marty with Panivana in the van of Ruth Gold and six others for third thirdThe The winner due to her previous good ef ¬ fort attracted the bulk of support and made good in handy style having four lengths over her nearest competitor as the race closed Thistle Marty the medium of a smart play worked her way to contention as they entered the final quarter but at no time displayed speed enough to cope with the vic ¬ tor and was under severe punishment to get her placing from Panivana PanivanaOUTSIDER OUTSIDER TO FORE FOREForecaster Forecaster an outsider in the speculation registered an easy victory in the second race which brought together a field of eight over the threequarters course Starch was sec ¬ ond and Good Shepherd third thirdIt It was the first winner for apprentice A Belyski whs had the mount on the winner and he handled his mount cleverly bringing him from behind the early pacemakers Starch which raced to the place gave starter Wingfield plenty of trouble with the result that he had the colt start from the outside He began rather sluggishly but moved up quickly after going the first quarter and was on even terms with the winner whan they started the run through the stretch He gave way badly when the final sixteenth was reached but had enough left to withstand Good Shepherd by a half length while the latter just lasted to outstay Old Bill by a head for third money The latter was a heavy choice but after contributing to the early pace went down decisively decisivelyGOODRICHS GOODRICHS GOOD RIDE A brilliant ride by apprentice E Goodrich was the principal factor in the victory of J H Davis Punkie when he defeated Mrs J Chesneys Mystery Ballot by a nose in one of the most thrilling finishes of the meeting Rocky Way finished third Chum was the chief disappointment being installed a heavy favorite but was badly out ¬ run for the entire distance Bobby Basil began quickest and raced into command soon after the start with jockey P Garrity rating him nicely in front while Mystery Ballot and Indian Guide led the others as they rounded the stretch turn Bobby Basil showed signs of distress at this point and it was then that Goodrich brought the winner up on the inside and as they reached the final eighth Mystery Ballot had assumed the lead with Punkie drawing up on even terms and they contested bitterly to the end with Punkie proving the gamer of the two twoLaura Laura Negley would have been a more serious contender with capable handling but jockey Judy took her to the heavy going and this greatly retarded her progress while the winner continued to race in the firmer part of the track Daspite this disadvantage the Simmons representative was rapidly getting to the winner at the end Miss Noah making her first start here turned in a good effort to be third ahead of Master Halligan which raced in dull form and proved a big dis ¬ appointment
