HAWTHORNE STAKE DATES Plan to Run All Features Except Inaugural Handicap on Sat ¬ urdays of Meeting Hawthorne will run all of its stakes on Sat ¬ urdays during the summer meeting except the Inaugural Handicap which will be run the opening day Monday August 4 This de ¬ cision was reached yesterday when president Schank gave his approval to a plan discussed yesterday by general manager Joseph A Mur ¬ phy and racing secretary Joseph McLennan With its added facilities for taking care of crowds Hawthorne is now equal to any emer ¬ gency and as many of its patrons are unable to get away except on Saturdays the man ¬ agement has determined to give this class of patronage the best possible racing on those days daysUnder Under the present plan the Hawthorne In ¬ augural Handicap for threeyearolds and over 5000 added will be run on Monday August 4 On the first Saturday of the meeting August 9 the Hawthorne Handicap 25000 added one mile and a quarter weight forage will be run On the second Satur ¬ day August 1C the Chicago Business Mens Handicap 10000 added one mile and an eighth for threeyearolds and over will be run also the Windy City Claiming Stakes 5000 added one mile and a sixteenth for threeyearolds and over On the third Sat ¬ urday of the meeting August 23 the Chicago Juvenile Handicap threequarters for two yearolds 10000 added and the Fort Dear ¬ born Handicap one mile and a sixteenth for threeyearolds 5000 added will be run runSecretary Secretary McLennan announced that the stakes will close on July 12 In this way entries can be solicited from horses that will be shipped back to Latonia from Washington Park and the stakes closed when the full strength of the Arlington meeting will be on the grounds groundsAn An arrangement has also been made be ¬ tween manager Roy Carruthers and judge Murphy by which the Hawthorne track will be kept open and the track in perfect con ¬ dition all through the Arlington meeting and the Arlington track will be kept up after its close and during the summer meeting at Hawthorne in this way it is believed that the congestion at both tracks can be relieved by getting some of the big establishments to leave unfit and lame horses at the track that is not in operation operationThe The situation at Washington Park and Lin ¬ coln Fields is not so acute between the two tracks as they are only a short vanning distance from each other and all the horsemen can be taken care of but Hawthorne and j Arlington are practically on their own as re 1 gards stable room It is believed however that the plan arranged will solve the problem j and permit both situations to take care of everybody
