WASHINGTON PARK PROGRAM I: « Races Arranged for First Seven Days of Meeting Beginning May 25. ♦ Inaugural Handicap With ,000 Added the Stake Attraction of Opening Day —Other Stake Dates. ♦— — William H. Shelley, handicapper and racing secretary, in issuing the program for the first seven days of the meeting at Washington Park, beginning Monday, May 25, presents three feature events and seven events each afternoon of that period. In addition he names the stakes and the dates of their running during the thirty-day meeting, these being: Monday, May 25 — Washington Park Inaugural Handicap, ,000 added, for three-year-olds and upward; three-quarters of a mile. Saturday, May 30 — Debutante Stakes Decoration Day, ,000 added, for two-year-old fillies; 5 1-2 furlongs. Saturday. May 30— Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap, ,000 added, for three-year-olds and upward; one mile and an eighth. Saturday, June 6— Illinois Oaks, 0,000 added, for three-year-old fillies; one mile and and eighth. Saturday, June 13— Thomas Curran Memorial, ,000 added, for two-year-olds colts and geldings; 5 1-2 furlongs. Saturday, June 20 — American Derby, 0,-000 added, for three-year-olds; one mile and a quarter. Saturday, June 27 final day— Francis S. Peabody Memorial, 0,000 added, for three-year-olds and upward; one mile and a quarter. On the opening day the first race will be for three-year-olds and upward, at six furlongs, for a ,300 purse; the second race, a ,200 purse, will be the Gardenia, for two-year-old maiden fillies, to carry 115 pounds over the five furlongs route; the third, at a mile and a furlong, will be a ,400 purse, for ,500, three-year-olds and upward, the weights to be 110 and 118 pounds; the fourth race will be a ,200 purse, for two-year-olds, at five furlongs, weights being 118 pounds. The Inaugural Handicap, fifth on the card, will bring into action several brilliant favorites in Chicago racing, such as H. M. Woolfs Lady Broadcast and Hornpipe; C. V. Whitneys Tantivy; Nash and Partridges High Foot and Downpour; Pansy Walker and Zacaweista, owned by Three D.s Stock Farm; Walter J. Salmons Ladder; Albert Sabaths First Vote; W. C. and E. W. Reich-erts My Dandy and Brown Wisdom; Looney and Jones Martha Jones; Le Mar Stock Farms Morsel; Lone Star Stables Crucifixion; Mrs. Thomas M. Doyles Tarpon; C. W. Hays Scotlands Glory; Pantages Stables Pantages; Ward and Burtons Dedicate; M. Goldblatts Jimmy Moran; T. D. Taggarts Amyvale; Charles T. Fishers Dixiana; Bill Bee Stables Satin Spar, and A. A. Baronis Don Alvaro, Nifty and Crofton. Incidentally, a capable individual who witnessed Agua Caliente and Tanforan racing sends advance warning respecting the Ba-roni eligibles, Alexander Pantages, Crofton and Satin Spar as being performers equipped to win any time and place. The sixth race, at a mile, for a purse of ,000, is styled the Woodlawn, for three-year-olds and upward which have not won ,500 three times since May 7; the seventh race, a ,300 purse, at a mile and a furlong, is for three-year-olds and upward, weights 110 and 118 pounds. The Decoration Day card will embrace a special handicap, carrying a ,600 value, at three-quarters, in addition to the Debutante Stakes and Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap. Throughout the meeting, according to the announcement of judge C. W. Hay, general manager, there will always be two feature attractions daily and frequently there will be three. Secretary Shelley, in compliance with his instructions, will endeavor to present racing of higher merit than in all other seasons.
