RACES FOR CANADIAN-BREDS 1 ♦ JJlue Bonnets Management Furnishes Contests for Dominion Foals. • Mount Royal Stable Horses Finish First and Third in Opener — Nipigon Wins Third Race. I ♦ 1 MONTREAL, Que., June 15.— The condi- ! lions of two of the races provided by the Montreal Jockey Club at Blue Bonnets this ! afternoon called for horses foaled in Canada. These events were run as the first ! and third races. The former was a maiden affair, for two-year-olds, while the third race .■was a dash of seven furlongs, for three- I year-olds and over. The Mount Royal Stable horses finished one-two in the first race, • yhile the Cardinal Stable provided the win- ! lier of the third race in Nipigon, a son of Boniface and Helen Rogers, which was bred by M. N. McFarlan. ] Nipigon was ridden by F. Dainty, and scored in runaway fashion. When the start came Nipigon got off in front, and before I they had gone a furlong he opened up a ] lead of three lengths. For the remainder of the journey he raced under slight restraint, . and the finish found him increasing his : advantage at every stride, to win at the ; end by five lengths. Pandorus, after a slow • beginning, made a bold challenge on the turn into the stretch, but in the final drive tired. Jug of Gold was a tiring third after [ facing in second place for six furlongs. The races at Blue Bonnets this afternoon tvere run over a sloppy track. Heavy rain fell during the night and early morning, but about noon the sun came out and conditions I overhead during the afternoon were pleasant. The conditions of the first race called for two-year-olds foaled in Canada. It was a ; dash of four and one-half furlongs, and a field of seven went to the post. Two of them Count Bruno and Foggy Dew were coupled ; as the Mount Royal Stable entry. The former had a good race to his credit at Woodbine, ; where he finished third in a contest run over a heavy track. The entry was heavily ■ supported and went to the post odds-on favorite. When it came to the running the pair dashed to the front soon after the start and raced one-two the entire journey. At the finish Count Bruno had a margin of two lengths to spare over Foggy Dew, which beat Star Diadem a length and a half for second place. P. E. Fitzgerald helped another jockey earn his maiden victory when he gave fTommy Kenwood the mount on Wig in the second race. Fitzgerald has a habit of picking out promising riders for these maiden jockey races. In previous seasons it was he who gave Willie Munden, McVarish and Brent their first winning mounts. Wig was one of a dozen platers that went to the post in the race that called for starters to be ridden by jockeys who had never ridden a winner. Wig was an outsider. There was some little delay at the post and it was only after they had been at the barrier seven minutes that a start was obtained. Wig began fifth and Kenwood did not hurry her. He permitted the latter to race along , under slight restraint. Making the turn into 1 the stretch, where the leaders went wide, he came through on the inside. At the ! furlong post he was on almost equal terms 1 With Dark Angel and in the last sixteenth 1 Shook off the others and, drawing away without effort, won by three lengths. Dark j Angel was driving to the limit to beat Achtoi 1 Lass by a neck for second place. Young Kenwood is a native of Montreal. • His father, mother, brother and sister were ! out to root him to victory.
